How You Take Your Tea

Speak to me you beautiful stranger.
Speak as just a name in my contacts.
Keep speaking as a name and so I eventually forget that is not all that you are to me.

Not all that you were, rather.
But I will pretend and sometimes will not pretend that I am okay with this,
And with us.
Given more thought, I can still be bothered to fume out a speech about how unfair all of this is.
How I don't understand, still.
How no amount of me rationalizing things for you or you explaining things to me directly changes one god damn thing.

Because before you could help seeing me,
Before you blatantly ignored my requests to visit,
You would hold me like nothing had changed.

And it was lovely, too.

If you could be bothered to remember how it felt,
How all of it was,
I think you could understand me,
And why I'd want you to come by for at least five minutes to order some god damn tea and eat lunch with your mother.

One new thought in my head says you don't come by because you are still afraid of that feeling.
I will believe it,
Because you are her when I think that.
You ignore me because your heart has to,
Not because you've forgotten about me.

This really hit home .. in more ways than one. I get this, I feel this and sometimes I write something similar to this in my head; and heart. Amazing. Vote

Isn't that what you were shooting for in this poem?
An aftershock of sorts?

The structure of this is very interesting. I almost read it as a piece of prose. I enjoyed it that way, well done.
