Igniting Jewels

An eternal flame blazes
in the fireplace of our hearts
flared by crackling smiles
and regaled by echoing laughs
ricocheted off the chambers
of our motley souls.

Vast cerulean oceans
tried to quench our friendly fire,
yet saline notes were still sent
by ivory-crested swells
imbued upon coast to coast.

Over 2000 miles dissipate
as I close the feet remaining,
swirling irises of melting chocolate
lock in a swift gaze,
the key turns with an embrace--

But you are not my treasure to keep,
I can only behold
the pearls of your smile,
the diamonds in your eyes,
and the gold of your heart
as I fall apart inside.
