The Symphony of a Broken Heart

People are talking,
Children laughing,
Birds sing their songs
To the crisp, cold breeze.

A dog barks at the cat,
Who slips swiftly
Into the bushes,
Leaves and branches rustling.

All these noises,
This winter symphony,
Continue unheard and unnoticed,
As I walk along, alone.

My song is one of misery,
One of pain and sorrow,
Ever since you said
You no longer loved me.

And so I walk down the road,
Quietly singing along
To the music of my bitter sonata,
As the rest of the world goes on.

UPDATE Sent this poem in to the World Poetry Movement on a whim... It was selected for international publication in a poetry compilation entitled, "Stars in Our Hearts" to be published soon. Thanks to all who commented and gave me the guts to put my work out there! <3
