All My Fault

I stand by and watch you struggle.
It's not possible.
It's not going to happen.
You're going to pull yourself out in time.
You're going to be ok.
But you're not.
Fate has already decided that it's your turn.
And now it's too late.
I could have done something.
But I hesitated.
And the train didn't.
It's haunting me.
I can feel my hands gripping
your coat to pull you up.
I can see your eyes full of
fear and then gratitude.
I can feel your relief for
your life spared.
But that's not what happened.
I wish it was.
But it wasn't.
I could have helped.
But I didn't.
You asked... begged for help.
No one moved.
My guilt pulses through my veins
with every heart-beat.
I just stood there.
Hoping more than anything that
someone else would help.
But they didn't.
I didn't.
It's my fault.
All my fault.

when my teacher told us the story, she then gave us an activity to do... she said that we had to put ourselves in the position of the actually people who were there that day when the man died in the Metro Station in Toronto... nobody did anything to save the man. se wanted us to come up with honest reasons as to why no-one helped... no matter how terrible. after i did the activity, i dont know... i just felt like i actually was there that day... it was weird...

wow that's a sad story. i can see how it could be so effective. way to put it into a clear, well written poem though.
