Amber Flames

A room sits empty and so full of shadows,
whispered nothings left hanging in the dark to dry,
Dripping fire and smoke into the darkness.

It’s those shadows that beckon to me,
The memories and promises that dull the edges
Of sharp pangs and pains still burning

It’s a soothing burn though.
It rounds the edges in a bright liquid splash
The ashes adrift in a bottle of amber flame.

If I could imagine a place so safe, this would be it.
The comforting flicker of everything I loved,
On fire.

The warmth, the gentle glow, the crackling whispered nothings
Ashes in the stillness, soft and cornerless.

Still, there is the smoke.

It is the thing that grips my lungs
Stings my eyes and roils forth in my safety.
It's the ghost of a shadow, springing from the flame.

Smile. It burns, and there's nothing left.
Just me, and the smoke.

There's a helluva lot in that empty room.

I felt like I was sitting in that room watching the fire burn and the smoke consuming what was left...great write! I enjoyed it very much.
